Warre Honey Bee Hive
Warre Honey Bee Hive
After building and testing 300 different styles of Hive, Abbot emile Warre settled upon the Warre hive or 'peoples hive' as he liked to call it. it favours a hands off, natural style of beeking, encouraging the bees to look after themselves as only they know how.
The purpose of the Warre hive is to as closely as possible replicate the natural environment in which a colony of feral honey bees would choose to live. Providing the essential ingredients for health and vitaility, Warre Hives provide a great place for wild honey bees to take up residence.
Free from the pressures of honey harvesting and the start up costs of beekeeping on a commercial scale. The bee keeper is now able to enjoy their bees as a useful addition to the garden, pollinating fruit trees, plants flowers and vegetables. Bees kept in Warre hives are good tempered and able to deal with problems themselves without the need for human intervention.
Installing a Warre hive into your garden can be a simple process, either leaving it baited for a paasing swarm to find, or introducing a swarm manually. Once inside you can leave the bees to their own devices, or manage them for a modest few jars of honey.
Constructed using locally sourced Western red cedar, cut and assembled in Dorset our Hives are built using Abbe Warres exacting dimensions. Treated with linseed oil and beeswax.
